what does leisure, sport & community
facilities group do
This group covers a wide area of social life including activities of more
than 20 local organizations, our churches, the use of ‘public’ buildings
and the provision of other services including local shops.
A major aim of this group is to support the considerable number of
leisure interests both individually and collectively at a time when the
life of rural communities is changing and coming under greater social
and economic pressures.
This is especially important in the case of groups whose interests are
directed at the elderly and the young.
As a result, and due to the extensive remit of this group, there is
naturally an overlap with other Parish Plan theme groups, eg:
Education &Healthcare, Housing &Planning, Transport &Community
Safety and Communications; all of whom will be working together to
ensure the continuation and future development of the various
groups and services currently available.

what the leisue,sport & community
facilities group have done and will do
(A) What We’ve done
We have organised meetings and research projects with voluntary
organisations within the parish to determine their needs, the
nature of their activities where they have specific aims and
membership and to assist in coordinating their joint aspirations in
the interests of the community as a whole.
(B) What we’re going to do
Through a newly constituted committee of the Parish Council, we
will continue to work towards a community which values the
unique identity of individual interests as well as fostering a sense
of common value and purpose for the whole parish; to investigate
the practical implications of a community fund with the express
purpose of raising monies for village projects; to examine the
possibilities of setting up a ‘coffee shop/drop-in centre’ within
the village to answer what was strongly perceived in the
consultation to be a much needed resource.
